Dress to Impress?

Why do people make such a big deal about the way other people dress? To me it's never made any sense, but maybe that's because I simply wear what's comfortable.

When I see people dressed a certain way, one or more of the following may (if I am really paying attention because 99% of the time I got better things to worry about) go through my head:

rofl! Well, if you're asking what I'm wearing at this very moment, a bathrobe, shorts, and a tanktop. Bathrobe because the one I have is super warm, and I'm a cheap loser who doesn't like to have the heater on unless the windshield of cars are frozen outside.

Now, as for what I wear in public, mostly either jean or slacks, and a solid-color long-sleeved T-shirt. Plain as can be. When I was younger (i.e. my teenage years) I used to wear the occasional favorite character T-shirt (at least when I was obsessed with Rurouni Kenshin, haha). Nowadays, it's just solid colors; no labels or anything. :)
