last summer, when i was in utah, we stopped by arches national park and camped there for 2 nights. there was a giant rock right 10 feet from our campsite that must've been 75 feet tall. if you followed it to the back it had a place that was easy to just walk up. i brought up my sleeping bag, flashlight, fear and loathing in las vegas and my journal and spent the night there. besides the other campfires there wasn't a light for 100 miles around us. because of that, it has to have been the clearest night i have ever seen in my entire life. when you're in the middle of the desert there's not much cloud cover and i swear i have not seen more stars in my entire life. that was the most beautiful place i have ever been. the stars made up for the discomfort of sleeping on a rock, and waking up with some sort of insects eggs in my hair.
When i saw snow for the first time, at mamoth caves - and we were running around in the forest next to the graveyard we found. I felt like i was in narnia. It was beautiful. Really.
it's one of the few places that i can specifically remember being happy. actively happy. thats the only way to describe it, i was actively happy there. and that made it beautiful for me.
