I'm with you. I'm not sure what it is about popular novels but I just don't see the appeal, it's not that I mean to go against the tide or anything it's just I feel this cringe whenever I see something I know is uber popular. That's why it took me until the third book was out for me to pick up the first Twilight (though, that was also because my friends bought them for me and were very forceful in me reading them, too).

Harry Potter was another one, I didn't read that because everyone was reading it. Lol, I still haven't read them. I sort of mean to but since my brother is so forceful about it I feel reluctant to take his collection and start.

I'm not sure how Jane Austen would handle the supernatural world... but that's the only type of romance novels I read, too. Sometimes they can be very stupid, probably worse than a normal romance novel but there is something about the glamor of the impossible supernatural creatures that make it worth while (most of the time).

I read the Harry Potter books because I was in the hospital emergency room (I don't even remember what for now, I guess it wasn't too bad) and in the area next to me was a mom was waiting with her daughter who got sick a summer camp. She was reading the first book (which was the only one out in the states at the time) to her and it was when Hagrid came and took Harry away to go shopping. Since it was the emergency room we waited a long time so I heard a lot and it sounded pretty good. I thought my son would like it but I had NO idea what the title was. I knew the name of the main character and lucky me his name was in the title of the book. We read them as more of a bonding thing as parent and child and even though I thought the writing wasn't all that good I did like they way she pulled stuff together at the end even if all the clues were sketchy. Then it blew up so I guess if it had already been huge I may not have tried it out. Go emergency rooms ( ... )

I have nothing against Harry Potter, I actually really respect JK Rowling for the series. I know pretty all about it since my brother is a huge Harry Potter nerd along with a few other friends and the way she can tie things together from first book to last is pretty amazing to me, that and her story is really creative. The words and thing she comes up with.

Twilight on the other hand lacks a lot of that jazz. I felt since I read the first Twilight I might as well read the rest of them, too, but then I got to the part when they were getting married in the last one and I felt like gagging and I couldn't get past it. I did not care and couldn't handle it. I also already knew how it ended and I just wanted to gag all over. It seems so stupid.
