The ones who are kept here the longest tend to be the ones they like messing with the most. Drafting them, taunting them with the Shifts, that sort of thing.

Maybe it's an issue of compatibility... [Though there are factors like age, strength, and so on that could be just as important.]

I'd like to see this list of yours sometime. It in itself isn't enough to make conclusions from, but it's a start.
