If a person exists, I guess that would mean they're real, but... [A pause.] That's a rather unspecific answer. What do you mean by a "figment"?

It's hard to explain, I think. I guess I'm asking what makes a person their own person even if they're created from somebody else or something. A figment like that, a fake.

[That definitely sounds familiar.]

...you mean like a replica?

...yeah. Yeah, exactly like a replica. Familiar with those?

[That question hits a little close to home here.]

... I don't really know. I've been trying to figure that out for a while.

... Can we lock this? I don't really know how to do it right. [Considering how easily Guy hacked his fail filter last time he tried.]

[Give him a bit to set up a filter then. Poor Luke.]

That should be secure. Better?

What do you mean by "real"?

I mean being original and existing by natural means. Where does the line start to blur between real people and fake people?

[pause. That's what comes of world's where that's possible, huh?

-- but he's seen eerily similar things, too.]

I think that the quality of being "alive" counts for more than you might be giving credit.

Explain what you think about it then. I'm curious.

They are entirely subjective, I find. No two persons can seemingly agree on what defines these sort of things. But if one were to ask me...

Individuality is what defines a "person". If they are capable of functioning beyond the conscious of another.

Individuality...you mean basically having a personality aside from everybody else. [Similar to what everybody has been trying to say Roxas, yes.] What if they do rely on another person for existence and functioning?

1week_wizard November 8 2010, 10:49:47 UTC
Like I said, so long as that person's actions and reactions are not determined by consciousness of another individual, then they can be considered to be a "person". Even if they are dependent on another person to function.

[...see, that's where it gets a little messy, but she has a point.]

Can I just ask why you believe that?
