Please help me...I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings or cause any problems here, but I am having a really hard time figuring out this Israel-Lebanon thing. What I don't understand is how we can advocate the killing of hundreds of Lebanese civilians as retaliation for the kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers. Now, Bush said that Israel has a right ( Read more... )

War Profiteering.

That simple. Money. More specific corporate money, oh and the fact that the US and Israel are together in making the Middle East safer for Israel despite what the residents in the area feel.

That means in a nutshell that an Israeli life is worth 300 Lebanon lives (according to the death toll to date).

The kidnapping was just the incident both the US government and Israel were looking for to invade.

Another note on the Lebanon civilian casualties. Hezbollah has no airforce or air defense. So they're tactic is to hide within the civilian population of Lebanon in hopes of Israel not wanting to endanger civilians.

As you can see this is completely not the case.

Last tip. Tune it to AM 1430. It's Air America and they have alot of people who know what they're talking about on.

Hezbollah's goal is the abolition of Israel. Israel's goal is to continue existing. Having said that, the civilian killing is abominable and hard to take. There's no clear cut good guy, but these terrorists organizations target innocents specifically and as a strategy, and there has to be a distinction.

But they targeted soldiers this time, which prompted Israeli killing of civilians. I can't help but feel that a special ops mission would be far more effective with Hezbollah...doesn't Israel have the equivalent to our Navy Seals or Army Rangers?

Israel is taking a no bullshit policy towards people who hurt it's citizens. The idea behind the "you take two of ours, we blow the fuck out of you" is meant as an EXTREME deterent. These people have suffered attack after attack ever since their inception as a country, and even further before that. It is brutal, and meant to be so. Think of it this way, I'm Hezbollah, I kidnap/kill two Israelie soldiers. Israel reacts in a balanced fashion, doing similar in return. Well, the Hezbollah didn't think twice about doing it the first time, and so the scale ups, maybe next time they kill a group of 10 people. Israel reacts in a balanced fashion, and the thing escalates gradually. Here, Israel is saying right off the bat, "Dont' fuck with us, or we'll hit you far harder than you've hit us, and we aren't detered by you hiding behind innocent people." And I do say hiding behind innocent people. One of the worst stories of things that happen over there was during an american attack somewhere in the middle east (I'm not sure how much I' ( ... )
