The End of Everything

Mar 21, 2009 00:50

Greetings, Cylon hybrid brothers and sisters! Or possibly pure human brothers and sisters of the original Earth.

Some notes:

- It's a big, beautiful circle, and we all start exactly where we stop. How wonderful!

- Head Six and Head Baltar are the sort angels I would like to see if I ever get the chance to go mad. Their presence added a wonderful flourish to the finale. That Caprica Six and Baltar saw them at the same time...yes. Thank you. That was amazing.

- THE OPERA HOUSE THING WAS REVISTED OH MY GOODNESS WHAT. It mattered! Everything mattered! The writers knew what they were doing all along!

- Adama moving Roslin's ring to her ring finger? And the way he talked to her before she died, as if he sincerely believed they would have a chance to lead this ideal life together? Excellent.

- Shocked when Kara disappeared, but you know what? She did die. It was over; her existence was prolonged and that was a strike of good luck, but no. She and Lee...did they miss their chance to be in a relationship? Well, I don't know.

- Lee deserves to go off and have adventures, just like Tyrol deserves to be a nomad on his own.

- Okay, you all heard Anders line to Tyrol, right? That one moment where he addressed him as Galen? Where he said in an even tone, "Sure thing, Galen"? Just making sure I'm not crazy.

- While I'm unsure about Tigh's goodbye to Tyrol - "I woulda killed that woman, too, man" - I think Tori's time was over. Every action has consequences, and Callie's murder has a goddamn bloody price. Tyrol breaking her neck was frightening, but it proves that even though he's a machine, he'll always be human.

- Thought it was interesting that the flashback at Boomer's death was part of both Athena and Boomer's memories. Also, Papadama and Tigh drinking and laughing at a rookie's expense? That's something to shudder about.

- I began to cry twice. When Adama passed the admiral mantle to Hoshi I thought, "That would have been Gaeta. It should have been Gaeta. If he had waited a little longer, taken the leap of faith that everyone's so hyped about, made his problems known without seeking bloodshed, everything would have worked out." He didn't, though, and it didn't. He is a good character and I miss him very much.

- The second time I began to cry was when Baltar talked about the land between the two peeks and that it looked like it could be farmed. Then he broke down and Caprica Six was there with him - and not Head Six, real Six. They grew, they changed, and they came back together. Gaius has made the choice to take responsibility and be a better person; Caprica Six already did that a long time ago. Gaius has reconciled himself with his past, and perhaps his father, and Six is moving forward with him.

Then the epilogue, prominently featuring Time's Square and a montage of our folly with robots.

It's a big, beautiful circle, and we all start exactly where we stop.

So, the final days of spring break. Haircut complete, packing and homework still need to be completed.

I'm ready to go back, though. It's time.
