Resolutions

Backdating this in case for some reason I want to look for it by date instead of tag. And it just feels nicer.

1. Be more decisive.

I think this will help with the rest of them. I also ought to be more diligent, attentive, and considerate, but I'm focusing on decisive for the moment. Since indecision often wastes time, distracts me, and drives my husband up the wall, it should also help with those.

2. Read through the Bible and attend church more regularly.

I'm setting a goal of at least thirty-one times; the proverbial month of Sundays should leave ample time for missing services due to illness or scheduling conflicts, but not a whole lot for sheer laziness. On a similar note, the reading should be through regular effort, not playing catch-up.

I need to think and pray about things, and not be afraid of the answers.

3. Finish up projects in lab, figure out what direction I want to take my career, and find a new job.

I love the lab I'm in, and I'm glad for the opportunity to follow up some stuff from my graduate work. But it's also about time to move on. This would also be a good time to figure out whether I actually want to pursue a career in academia or try for something else.

4. Clean and declutter the apartment.

This resolution was partly inspired by observing other people move.

5. Keep better records.

Part of this connects to decluttering, since a substantial amount of the clutter is paper that needs to be filed or trashed. That's one of the things I've become slack on. I'd also like to do things like keep a record of stories to nominate for some of the awards I pay attention to. Maybe go back to keeping a written journal, or start posting more in this one. I suppose keeping up better with stuff like dooku_files and the poetry thread I started don't exactly fall in this category, but mentally they kind of do.

6. Improve strength and endurance.

No weight-loss goals here; it wouldn't be a bad thing if I dropped a few pounds, but it also wouldn't be a bad thing if I stayed the same weight but more of it was muscle. The trouble is, I am not fit. I want to reach the point of running a mile all at once, maybe a 5K if I do very well, and I'm also planning to build up my strength a bit. I need to get back in the habit of doing some light exercise when I'm getting ready for bed--even a few squats and push-ups add up eventually--and stretching, as well as taking advantage of the apartment complex's gym while I've got it.

7. Better nutrition.

I would like to get into the habit of drinking at least two glasses (32 oz.) of water per day. I should cook more and eat more fruits and vegetables, but for the sake of realism, I'm going to start with trying to be more consistent about my multivitamin.

And eat up the alarming collection of canned tomato soup. And try to remember that I do actually like broccoli with cheese sauce, even if the broccoli always looks rather discouraging ahead of time. And buy lots of corn this spring and summer. Yes, I should work on expanding my tastes, but I should also concentrate on actually eating the ones I like!

I've got two great recipes for baked apples now, too. One is very, very dessert. The other is much lighter.

8. Better sleep habits.

I cracked up when I ran across a horoscope informing me that my schedule would not always be as flexible as it is now. That one certainly hit the nail on the head.

9. Be more involved with the bees this year.

I might change this one if I think of something important I forgot, but it is something I'd like to do. I left a lot of it to my parents this past year (the bees live with them), and if I move out of state for a few years for career reasons, this might be my last chance for a while.

10. Write and cross-stitch more.

Aside from one project that I promised somebody and am very late on, this one's purely for fun and pleasure. But I really would like to do more of both. I think... I won't beat myself up over it, but I'd like to have fifty things done. They can be stories, chapters, drabbles, completed cross-stitch projects, completed floss colors, depending on the project.

Hmm. Should redo my list for onedeadbunny, I think. I haven't kept it up.
