We (lab people) made it to Berlin for the conference without problems. I was half expecting to get shunted all over the airport when I first saw that the flight ahead of us at our gate was way delayed, but they moved the other flight instead

Hey, I didn't even know you were in Germany! Unfortunately, Berlin is two hours' train away and it doesn't sound as if you have much free time. *g*

For the record, air conditioning isn't at all common in Germany - I'm slighty surprised the hotel said they would have had some, but I suppose hotels might be different - and we're currently having a heat wave, so. Normally, it's a lot cooler.

Apparently I completely failed to communicate this. I mentioned it right before I left and someone I'd been talking to on a daily basis was astonished.

I have some free time, but probably not enough for visits requiring a four-hour round trip, I'm afraid.

After looking up normal summer weather here, I'm not surprised air conditioning is unusual. The conference organizers do usually seem to favor places where the lecture halls can be turned down to "Brrr" though. I just wish I'd packed better!
