The Star Wars fanfic archive at TheForce.net is looking for more staff. Specifically, for more of the reviewers who examine fics to decide whether they're appropriate for inclusion in the archive. If you want to apply, you have to sign up for an account at that site (the archive specifically; the forums are separate accounts) so the application ( Read more... )

How long does it take to find out if you've been accepted or not? Just out of curiosity.

I think they actually hang on to reviewer applications indefinitely when they're not actively looking. I suppose in this case you'll find out around the end of August or early September.

If you don't mind me adding a wee bit of info, P_K: For whatever reason, you don't get notified at all if you aren't accepted. I think it's always been that way; Herman might know why that is, but I don't. (Or maybe I did and forgot. :p )

You're right that if the Archive doesn't actively need a reviewer (not always the same thing as "actively looking", because they likely wouldn't bother advertising if they only felt they needed one or two), they keep any qualifying apps on file until a vacancy does arise, then contact the applicant and ask if they're still interested. In a situation like this, though, they're likely to accept a qualifying applicant almost as soon as the editors agree to do so. I doubt the wait would be long at all.

I think the whole system was designed with the idea being that there would be a whole lot more "maybes" than "absolutely nots," so the theory would be that you wouldn't want to reject a low "maybe" and then later have the entire staff die of the bubonic plague and have nobody to replace them with. And, if you don't want to send rejection letters to all the people who apply but only some, you'd get people thinking all sorts of things while they were waiting for word back. Like, "oh, I wasn't rejected, so I must be about to be accepted ... anytime, now, really!"

It's mainly me and LLL spearheading this, so we're kinda playing it by ear. Obviously we want to bring in a group, so it might be easier to promote them all at one time. But, if we get a really great app, there isn't much sense in waiting for another perfect app that may or may not come along. I may notify via PM or something if we don't immediately promoting them *ponders*

Thank for the post, PK :D

That is pretty sound reasoning, I guess I wouldn't want to know if I was an "absolute not," on some level, but on another, I almost would, just so that I would know where to improve on. Oh well. :p Tact and diplomacy is always better. "If you can't say something nice, say nothing at all." :p
