Capaldi made 'Torchwood: Children of Earth' for me and I've loved him in everything I've seen him in since. I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT HIM BEING CAST AS ELEVEN. I CAN'T STOP BOUNCING. *flails*

As people have been mentioning here, he is a good actor - and that's good enough till we see him in action. :-) Nice choice.

Like some other people here, I've been watching The Hour, and he was excellent in that and thinking of Randall completely convinces me that he can be a fabulous Doctor - so I'm now a lot more eager to see him arrive and far less apathetic about it than I was.

And Steven Moffat has always said he wanted to make the Doctor older - he just got confronted with Matt Smith being perfect regardless of age last time, so I'm really not surprised at that. (And I mean, he's said that pretty much forever, long before it was back on TV, or he was show-running.)

Anyway, since I'm going to very sad to see Matt go, I'm glad there's someone coming up I'm excited to see take over... And now we know, and they can stop all the ridiculous speculation!

I am still vastly indifferent - despite Classic FM's obvious excitement - it made all the morning news bulletins! Someone's clearly a fan there!

It is quite amusing - they also made a big thing of the annoucement that Matt was leaving. It's only in the last couple of years or so that Who news is turning up as items on the Classic FM bulletins.

He's 10 years older than me. I knew he was an established actor - I've just not seen him in anything outside the Whoniverse.
