I hope you understand what I mean when I say that I think you are going to be the kind of doctor that my mother would have been.

And that makes me feel very hopeful.

Amen sister mine!
This is 15 times as true for fibromyalgia. My personal theory (YMMV) is that I've got a physical expression of PTSD. Bad stuff (TM) happened, severe burnout happened. Society and several MD's told me I was lying, making it up, and just a hysterical woman. In response, I pushed myself harder until my body just quit.
If the societal response to the initial bad stuff happening had been and unequivocal "We will support you, and this is not your fault!" much of the subsequent yuckiness could have been prevented. Yes, sweetie, society is indeed broken.

*nods* I think your experience is all too common, and your theory is actually a pretty accepted one. I have several friends with fibro, chronic fatigue and other problems who fall into the same grouping. It's kind of sickening to me the way they get brushed aside as "this is just psych, it's all in your head you should get over it." If anything, the opposite is the case- if it's a psych issue, that means it's *not* something you can just get over and it deserves more attention, not less ( ... )

Found you through a comment you made on Polyamory group. Hey, hurry up and get your MD - I'll be your first patient. I occasionally need something homeopathy, chiropractic, herbs, or my own efforts can't provide...

Wow! Thanks- I'm doing school as fast as I can :-).

Hey, do I know you IRL? I used to live in Takoma Park, before I started med school. It's odd to hear from somebody from the old 'hood!
