[ Action for House 39 ]

[ The first thing that Repliku notices, once he realizes he's not with the Malnosso any longer, is that it's cramped wherever he is. He notices this by flailing rolling over and hitting his shoulder against the top of... whatever space he's wedged in. The second thing that he notices is that it's dark. Not particularly dark ( Read more... )

does he get points for trying?, heartless? in my luceti?, he's not emo he just likes darkness, #action, mallynapping, #written, something goes bump in the night, moving on is hard

There is nothing that I would wish to forget.

[Robert fears nothing more than the loss of knowledge. Forgetting anything - even the most horrible things - would be losing knowledge.

... Even if he still has recurring nightmares about Giles dying in front of him... he certainly doesn't want to forget that it happened.]

What if it's something you think you'd be better without?

[For a moment, Robert almost lets himself wonder if this does, in fact, exist. If there is something he thinks he'd be better without. Finally:] Everything that I know helps contribute to whom I am right now - many valuable insights would be lost if I were to lose those things.

[Pain is worth it, to understand.]

What do you do when there's nothing to gain from having those memories, then?

[... Nothing to gain? Nothing at all? Is that possible?]

Analysis, I suppose. Question why there is nothing to gain from them.

There is information in almost everything. Even a lack of information is information in and of itself, in a sense. It certainly tells one something.

Having them just [ ... ] screws everything up.

Why is that? [What could be screwed up about having memories? Isn't that supposed to happen?

... For the record, Robert hasn't encountered any real situations where somebody has a complete replica of another person's memories.]

And is there some way to prevent that, other than erasure of them?

I thought I was someone else. [ It's enough to write for now. ]

What caused you to think that way? [Some kind of identity disorder, perhaps? Robert has to wonder what would cause that.] Is it a remnant of that one Shift that occurred?

[... That Shift was hard on everybody. And it reminds him of what Don said...]

It happened before I came here. My memories were all from someone else.

From someone else?

[...]

Were they some sort of transplant? [Now it's starting to make more sense.]

He kept them, too.

A backup, perhaps? Or a copy? [Computer analogies. Way to be sensitive here, Robert.]

a copy

[ A fake. ]

[In Robert's mind, a copy doesn't mean a fake.]

And this is problematic, to you? There is nothing wrong with being replicated. Replication is important to many biological systems.

[ There's a noticeable delay before the reply comes. ]

We're done talking.
