184 - We set out to change the world and ending up… just changing ourselves.

Jul 07, 2007 01:14

I've been thinking about all the times I tried to change the world, on New Cap. I really thought I could make a difference somehow, do more than I did. I was tired of being "Mister Gaeta", the dependable, overefficient boot that wears out and you only notice how worn it became when it suddenly fails you.

Did I fail more people by leaving Galactica ( Read more... )

No, the ones who are too old, have communicable diseases, or are Cylons probably won't. But what I'm saying, Dee, is that everyone else is going to HAVE to. It will be the only way for humanity to survive- by breeding.

I'm not excited about the prospect either. I can't see myself with a poopy diaper, or picking up toys in the CIC.

I would definitely wait until you're as ready as you could possibly be. It was because of Nick that Cally and I dropped our guard and moved down to New Caprica. Because we thought it'd be best for him.

But I can tell you, from my own experience, that once I held my son in my arms, I had a new and more meaningful purpose in my life. I don't think we would have gotten through the past few months if we didn't have Nick depending on us.

The Admiral once told us that he expected us to have at least a dozen. We'd really appreciate it if you could eventually take the pressure off and have one of your own. But not till you're ready.

I told you you should've let me tell Gaeta about all the available women asking about him on New Caprica!

And I hate to tell you, but the pressure is still on.

As far as New Caprica goes Lieutenant-- you tried. It matters.

And... *smiles* Now you're making me worry about fatherhood. Thanks. *laughs*

All biological imperatives aside, fatherhood's highly recommended.

You know, there are those who found that tattoo of yours rather... enticing, Lieutenant. Down on New Caprica, I mean. I would have said something, but Galen told me to mind my own business.

If you can get off the ship for some downtime, I know where some of these women were relocated to after the exodus.

Downtime? What's that?

Seriously, Specialist, while I appreciate the offer, trolling the Fleet for dates is a little more desperate than I want to be. Thank you for the compliment.

Did these women see my tatto when we were still bathing in the river, before the shower facilities were constructed? Because I can't think of any other way.

Your point's well-taken.

And, uh, well... you remember that party the union threw right after it formed? About four or five months after Batshit's Baltar's groundbreaking? You kinda had your shirt off for a few minutes. Everyone was looking around wondering where all the women went.

You should be happy, Felix. For a little while, you were. I think everyone should be happy.

Pardon me, Specialist, but are you saying that I took off my shirt and all the women fled? Because I don't think it was quite THAT bad.
