TM 189- Mr. Gaeta Plays Catchup

TM 189- If you could read my mind right now… Talk about a conversation when what you said was not what you were thinking.

The one that sticks in my head, that I replay over and over, is when I knelt in a Galactica launch tube, looking at the faces of people I know, people I had worked with. Diana Seelix. Connor. Jean Barolay of the Caprica ( Read more... )

You didn't need to speak up for me, Lt. Gaeta. It's enough that I know where you stand.

But don't you see, Sharon? That's how it starts. One person who could have spoken remains silent, and then another, and then before too long, those who would have spoken are afraid to speak, and then they can't at all.

You're wrong. It starts with one person, true, but you sound like Karl. You don't need the weight of the world on your shoulders. You don't have to always be the one to do the right thing, or say the right thing, simply because it's the right thing to do.

It doesn't always play out the way you would intend it to sometimes.

I can think of a lot worse people to be compared to than Helo. He has the strongest sense of self I have ever encountered.

I understand what you are saying, Sharon, but I DO need to be that person, or I can't live with myself. Not anymore. I overlooked too much on New Caprica to ever be comfortable with that kind of personal oblivion again.

It may not play the way I want it to, but I'd rather try than sit quietly waiting for the next blow to fall.

And exactly who the frak is looking at you?

I would've thought word would've spread through the ship now. I had some of the biggest mouths on my deck going around letting everyone else know we've got your back.

Of course, we also have the President's back, the Vice-President's back, and Colonel Tigh's back as well. The admiral, of course, needs no backing, but if he did, we'd be taking care of him as well.

You think people are no longer taking us seriously? Due to the number of people who we arrogantly believe want our protection?
