Also, you mentioned trouble listening during commutes. Get some CLOSED headphones. They make a phenomenal difference in cities. Don't be afraid to look like a roving DJ ;)

A joy of Wisconsin is that high-end earbuds sound almost as good as closed DJ-style cans.

I countersignal via pseudoPods...because:
Instead of mp3s, it's way more convenient (for me) to rent DRM'd music from YMU. Their catalog is tremendous -- practically complete -- and everything is so seamless.
Downloads just fly through the ether (any wireless network) to my Sansa. I haven't docked it at a PC in weeks, and I swap out songs all the time (I don't even know when it's doing it!).
Apple won't work with YMU or Rhapsody. They have their own business model.
The biggest inconvenience is actually that I can't put "my" music files online for you...that's the power of DRM technology (and why they can afford to lease practically every song every recorded for a few dollars a month).
Design whore note: Both pseudoPods I've bought are IMO more beautiful & way more functional (thus getting some extra elegance points!) than the iPods. Pity about the first one being such a fragile, unstable design.
