There’s an alternative universe pretty close to ours where things went subtly different in 1975 or so...and the rednecks starting watching action/adventure/SF movies featuring airships and steampunkish trumpetguns, while the hipsters got more into Boris Valejo paintings with their massive barbarian swords

I wondered that myself, and instantly concluded the same! I imagine it's a reference to one of Cory's own aliases somewhere, but I didn't search to verify, just lost interest.

This still seems to be the best popular technology for writing & sharing. If some new service showed up with a wildly non-chronological friends' page (so you can't even tell if you've seen everything!) & no layers of entry protection or friend filtering, surely no one would use it!

...AND I actually just now installed my first LJ client on any of my current crop of computers. (So I hadn't run one in months or more!) This also became instant occasion to go through and retaliatorily unfriend those who surely assumed I died; and, to make my own assumptions about the dying and invite such retaliation!
