OpenSource GIS - Salary Information

This quarter I needed an independent study class. I thought it would be a good idea to get familiar with some of the open source gis libraries/applications available out there, so I went to the most hardcore open source professor at my school, and convinced him to give me his sinature so I can do a small web application that is spatially enabled. At work I've been writing a service that delivers symbologies and geodata to whatever mapping backend the customer wants, so I've had my head in this space a little. The technology to do your own geocoding service is in Mapping Hacks, is apparently some well known perl packages. If you ever want to bounce any ideas off of me, I'm down with that.

For the geocoder, I was going to use this:

By the way, I'm sure I'll take you up on the offer within the next couple of months.

You know, by the end of the quarter, I also have to do a presentation/demo. I was going to use a thick client for the 'finale'. Basically, just write a plugin for WorldWind that was going to query my web app and pull some data in GML or something similar to be displayed using 3D symbols... for some reason, that kind of stuff always gets people with the "wow"-face.
