History:
The beginning of Chloe's life was bittersweet to say the least, not that the little girl would have any sort of clue about it until she was much older. When Susanna died during childbirth, James Martel found himself heartbroken but with a beautiful little baby girl, blonde like her mother in his arms. Susanna's mother, Wilhemina soon moved in to help James rear little Chloe, who had been named as per her mother's wishes after her own grandmother. And the subject of her mother was never brought up for fear of potentially scarring Chloe. As she grew up, the little girl thought there was nothing strange or odd about her family. She had a Daddy and a Gramma Willy, and other kids she met on the playground seemed to have just Mommies or just Daddies depending on who had brought them that day. Wherein the ever lucky Chloe had TWO whole grown ups to walk with her and buy her ice cream.
She was satisfied albeit precocious, and didn't hear or know much about her mother until she reached school age, when she learned that all children came from a mommy AND daddy. Presenting this inquiry to her father at the impetuous age of six; it was then that he told her reluctantly about her mother. While she had often been a curious and quick learning toddler, it was very likely this moment that awakened the obsessive scholar within her. She set out to learn everything that there was about her mother, thankfully having her Gramma close to tell her stories about her, sifted through pictures and photo albums, boxes of belongings- and even ventured to learn about her demise as much as her little mind could understand. It seemed that in her learning about her mother and her healthy understanding of what had happened, she aided her Father in coming to terms with his own wife's death.
This same nature followed the little girl throughout school, her book collection seeming to grow faster than she did. Though she wasn't a nerd or geek by any means, she certainly wasn't one of the popular girls, preferring to spend her lunch periods in the library rather than out on the tar with the other kids. She gained a nerd following of her own quickly enough; gaggles of boys that idolized the pretty blonde girl that was at the top of her classes, and didn't discriminate against them. It was only until she'd gotten through nearly everything the meager libraries had, that she chose to become sociable, experimenting with athletics and dance only to find herself easily bored. This insatiable need for knowledge paid off when she got to middle school, bumping her ahead in her class quicker than most; she graduated high school as the Salutatorian at the age of 15.
Still to young to move away, she was enrolled at the local Savannah Community College where she chose to major in Literature, her primary interest for her first Bachelor's degree. Before she had graduated, she'd already seemed to lose interest in the subject however, setting the course for an unending trend. And so deciding to enroll in a new program, she picked up her pet interest of Physics and Astronomy at Georgia State University, where most of her friends from highschool had been headed. Come her junior year, she found herself engaged to her long time best friend, Jonathan Marino. As far as Chloe was concerned, life was wonderful; she was going to get a job in astrophysics, marry Jon, and have a house with a white picket fence and smart little babies. Unfortunately, come her senior year she lost the one mother figure that she'd had her life, Gramma Wilhelmina passing away and painfully pushing through the last three months of school Chloe took that as the initiative to break things off with Jonathan and get out of Georgia. With her inheritance(which would have been better off spent on the massive student loans she had been accumulating) she headed off for a tour of “the old world” for the next two years studying languages. Bumping into Jonathan in Oxford at the last leg of her tour, in a slight moment of romantic fueled stupidity the two called it fate and married at St. Paul's Cathedral. Spending only four months in England, she already found herself growing anxious feeling something simply fundamentally wrong between her husband and herself. Filing for divorce as hastily as she'd gotten married , she returned to the States, where she headed to New York with a new passion in Cultural Anthropology.
Enrolling at NYU on yet more loans, finding the cheapest apartment she possibly could, and taking a job at the Pink Pussycat Boutique which allowed her to work nights; she began to feel settled, this seemed to finally be the one career path that the now twenty four year old could stay focused on for all of the different aspects it entailed. It wasn't until she had reached graduate school following her return from a six month ethnographic stay with the Amhara in Ethiopia that she decided to leave the field; for once irritated by the people involved in the field rather than from loss of interest. Regardless of her removal from the field she still does some work spurned on in the name of the tribe she stayed with, working with famine relief and is a prevalent speaker for the Nothing but Nets organization against malaria.
Finally at the age of 29, Chloe finds herself enrolled at C.W. Post majoring in the Library Sciences and now managing the Pink Pussycat Boutique. She is still living in a little shit hole of an apartment with most of her belongings in storage due to a lack of space.
Personality:
If you ask her what her defining trait is, she would answer that she is ravenous for knowledge and new experience, Chloe is often found with a book in her hand or a new project under taken. It is because of this quirk that she is going on 30 and is now managing the same upscale porn shop that she started working at 7 years and two and half degrees ago. She just can't seem to keep continuous interest in a single subject, and though some might attribute it to something along the lines of indecision, but she prefers to think of it as insatiability. This greed also seems to pour over into her rather hedonistic views of life and experience; wanting to try just about anything at least once; she has a definite idea of how fragile and fleeting life is and never hesitates when an opportunity presents itself no matter how reckless or dangerous it may be.
Most people are often surprised to find that the girl with the thick black glasses and book in hand is considerably sassy and outgoing. Although proud of her Southern roots, Chloe makes it a point not to perpetuate the negative Southern stereotypes that others seem to embrace; being exceptionally well read and versed in most Romantic languages and Arabic; she no longer carries much of an accent except when angry. Quick witted- she is fast on feet when faced with a chaotic situation or a match of wits, and has a habit of being quite spiteful. Despite what some might consider snobbery, Chloe is open to just about anyone that passes her way. Even if she'll be very quick to let that person know if she likes them or not.
She is still very interested in ethnography, and most importantly human behaviors. Since she had begun working at the Pink Pussycat, she's found herself even more interested in human sexual behaviors; from kinks, to romance, to mating rituals. And has in turn embraced this current career outlet as a good way to get her reading done in slow hours, have a good laugh at new products, and conduct her own personal research.
She adores movies and music, and her collections of both are compulsively well kept, expansive and alphabetized. And of all of her oddest compulsions, buys bras and panties like some women buy shoes and hand bags; an obsession somewhat hidden by her more than normal looking appearance. She's what some could consider to be "one of the guys" finding as much contentment in a rack of ribs and a hockey game, as she does in ice cream and a trip to the museum.

Duban and Chloe:
All previous incarnations of Duban have been of scholarly report whether involved in medicine, philosophy, or science. It seems that all past incarnations sort of plant similar interests into the next leading to a sort of curse of interests. Her most recent previous incarnation was as the German physicist and Nobel laureate Werner Karl Heisenberg, and she has begun to find herself dreaming as Leonardo Da Vinci. Chloe's role as the current day Duban, appears in her scholarly behavior in which despite her seeming unsettled behavior, she has published several articles and one book in the realm of Astro and Theoretical Physics, as well as a few anthropological articles. She is currently working on a compended ethnographic book for her time in Ethiopia. Although the relative genius of Duban has faded somewhat from reincarnation to reincarnation; leading from the Renaissance man to the current day porn shop employee. Mostly, Duban shows up in her ability to quickly pick up languages, forming a collection of fluencies which she has been working on since a child. She has under her belt so far mastered most Romanic languages; Italian, Spanish, French, Latin, and Portuguese, as well as German, Farsi(which she picked up with surprising ease), some Amharic and she is working on Arabic still. Though Chloe is not yet aware of her place in taledom, when she is made aware she is very likely to simply embrace it as she does everything else just with a bit more confusion than usual, sporting it simply as a part of her nature.
