So, I've gotta ask, is PL the kind of story with unremitting badness for Xander from start to end or is this a story with maybe/possibly/kinda a happy ending?

I'm a sucker for happy endings and am willing to beg, if necessary, for some kind of happy ending! :-)

Everything is up in the air. According to the script I set up, it should have quasi-happy ending... but my muse rarely sticks to my scripts so I really don't know *laughs*

Well, we already know Spike can take care of a nutty girlfriend for over 100 years... a little kooky Xander should be handleable... hee!! Or Spike could want him healthy and sane. He hasn't told me yet, really, and my muse always plops odd and strangely times plot twists.
