10. RAIN ON, Woods
Muddy puddles reflecting the rainbow-like colors of a rustling lo-fi music by twinkling Jeremy Earl’s vocals, and there’s nothing to do but admire.
9. FORGETFUL HEART, Bob Dylan
Why can’t he write/sing like he did before? The door was closed forevermore, if indeed there ever was a door.
8. MASSAGE THE HISTORY, Sonic Youth
Kim Gordon is voice massaging. Probably I would never guess this song is a collage from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and musical industry. SYs are loving collages, which I cannot decipher without an outside assistance. But I can imagine instead it says about Baudrillard’s massage/message, tactile and tactic. I can create my own collages which will not understand someone else.
7. STILLNESS IS THE MOVE, Dirty Projectors
How could such a sententia not to inspire someone like me? To tell the truth, it is hard to predict what will turn out of this kind of inspiration. Maybe i will get a job, get a job as a waiter in some remote city...
6. SOFT SHOCK, Yeah Yeah Yeahs
I've always had a weakness for eurodance. Consequences of 90’s childhood. Pavlov’s reflexes, Freud’s subconsciousness... dunno, but this song stronger than any other attached to me and spun me and my record players right round round round all year long.
5. HUMAN OF THE YEAR, Regina Spektor
Usually songs in which they are siiingiiing Haaalleeeluuuuujaaaah makes me wanna throw up. But not in this case. Not if the voice itching bones and pulling nerves existence of which one didn't even know. As if you’re the one who’s receiving an award which doesn’t exist.
4. IN MY DREAMS, Eels
Touching story about the walk that wasn’t real. What can be more perfect than such a walk? What can be more perfect than minimalistic genius of Eels?
3. QUIET DOG (BITE HARD), Mos Def
Mos Def is paralyzing and provoking ecstatic convulsions stronger than bites of a dog. The spirits of disobedience and struggle are performing African ritual dance around explosions of the most powerful modern bombs, shining the shadows brighter than outbursts of violence in the most dangerous places on earth.
2. ANTI-ORGASM, Sonic Youth
The most explicit intercourse performed by Moore-Gordon who are known for their emphasized asexuality. Under the title of the song “This is not an anti-orgasm” needs to be written. Provocation, sarcasm, challenge. Reconsideration. Is there a possibility of an orgasm in liberated society? Is there a possibility of a free society?
1. EMPIRE STATE OF MIND, Jay-Z feat. Alicia Keys / EMPIRE STATE OF MIND (PART II) BROKEN DOWN, Alicia Keys
If this song was dedicated to Los Angeles or any other city, probably, I wouldn’t even notice it. Maybe overhyped chorus would only irritate me... Actually, the chorus connecting both versions of the song: and if Jay-Z basically comparing himself to New York in upbeat-supremacy style (despite anything he’s the new Sinatra indeed), Alicia Keys approaching rather downbeat-desperate kind of attitude. The way to describe duality of the world’s capital city.
