I'm pissed. Know why? Cause apparently your not considered independent until you are 24 according to the FAFSA requirements. So I still have to list my dad even though he gives me absolutely no money. I pay my rent, my car, food, gas, clothes, concert tickets, booze. I wake myself up at 2 am to go to work, I get my uniform dry cleaned and pressed

I'm 20 and I'm independent. You need to go to your dad and tell him to stop claiming you on his taxes, he's using YOU to get more money for himself when tax time rolls around. My parents stopped claiming me and my brother so we could get money for school

aparently it different for FAFSA. I don't know why. I talked to the people at NOVA and they weren't helpful.

Once your status is changed, everything should go through with FASFA

Talk to the Finantial aid people at the school. They can get you listed as "Independent" and/or know what steps you have to take to make that happen....
