All right...
I've had a pretty terrible experience with HP these past few weeks months.
Timeline:
- July 28, 2007. I decide that I ought to get my HP notebook fixed before school begins. There are nearly two months remaining in summer vacation, so I figured that it'd finish in time. I contact HP to open a case. They tell me it should take between nine and fifteen days.
- July 31, 2007. The box for me to ship my notebook back to HP arrives.
- August 3, 2007. I FedEx the box -- notebook within -- to HP.
- August 6, 2007. An H.CRUZ signs for the notebook; it's arrived at Lavergne, Tennessee.
- August 13, 2007. It's been a week since they've received it, yet they still haven't updated the case page to demonstrate that they have it. I'm a little worried, so I contact them again. I'm told that they have it, and that they're escalating the case to a case manager.
- August 23, 2007. They still haven't updated the page; I think perhaps they just haven't bothered with it. I contact HP again. They "re-escalate" the case to a case manager.
- September 15, 2007. HP calls me, asking for permission to re-image the hard drive, which would destroy all data on it. I approve the re-imaging, grateful that they're finally working on it.
- September 18, 2007. The case page shows that my notebook was not under warranty and that I owe them $350. Confused and a little frustrated, I contact HP. After a forty minute conversation with three different people, I'm told that I can contest the charge. I do so, and the representative attempts to find a supervisor; she fails, but says one will call me within two business days.
- September 19, 2007. A supervisor calls me, looks at the case, tells me that there's no reason why the notebook shouldn't be under warranty. He removes the charge.
- September 25, 2007. Still no updates on the case page. Wondering where my computer is, and whether or not they're doing work on it, I contact HP. I'm told that the notebook is "in processing" and I will receive an update shortly.
- October 5, 2007. I finally receive an update on the case page; there's a tentative delivery date. I imagine this means they've begun work on it. Projected date of delivery: October 15, 2007.
It's been SIXTY-NINE days since I initiated the process, or TWO MONTHS and SEVEN DAYS. Fortunately, I don't require a computer in my room, as there's a nice cluster in our dorm.
ahead.
