Thanks jessicareloaded!

[1.] What is one thing you did in 2011 that you'd never done before?
Started a business :)

[2.] Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't really make them...if I want to change something about myself, why wait? And if I don't want to change anything, why make a resolution?

[3.] Did someone close to you give birth?
Not *close*, but it seems like virtually everybody I know has at least one or two kids - practically everyone from my class at school, for example.

[4.] Did anyone close to you die?
Not *close*, but people I cared about, sadly yes.

[5.] What countries did you visit?
None! I stayed in the UK for holidays.

[6.] What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
A proper income...my own place...

[7.] What dates from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Dates don't always 'etch' with me. Plenty of events will remain with me forever - some good, some bad - but the exact dates elude me.

[8.] What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Refusing to give up, I guess.

[9.] What was your biggest failure?
Needing to refuse to give up, I guess.

[10.] Did you suffer illness or injury?
Only the usual minor injuries and mental health stuff.

[11.] What was the best thing you bought?
As usual, various books :)

[12.] Whose behavior merited celebration?
My uncle Terry is seriously ill, in a lot of pain and suffering a great deal, and being incredibly courageous about it. I have seldom admired anyone so much. His strength has been amazing.

[13.] Whose behavior made you appalled?
The list for the world in general would be sadly long...in my personal life, nobody who doesn't always ;)

[14.] Where did most of your money go?
Bills, job interviews.

[15.] What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Moving back to Oxford in spring :)

[16.] What song will always remind you of 2011?
I discovered Les Mis this year, so most of that :)

[17.] Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or hardened? Definitely both. I have never been more comfortable in my own skin, but I've also had to accept failure after failure and the hiatus, if not the death, of at least one lifelong dream.

ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner. Not by as much as I'd like, but getting there.

iii. richer or poorer? Considerably poorer.

[18.] What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writing. I'm terrible at finishing things.

[19.] What do you wish you'd done less of?
Being depressed. It wastes so much time and energy.

[20.] How will you be spending Christmas?
Had Christmas 1 and 2 with Nic's folks already, and our own private Christmas as well. Having final Christmas with my folks tomorrow!

[21.] Did you fall in love in 2011?
All the time :)

[22.] Any one-night stands?
Nope.

[23.] What was your favourite TV program?
Lots of new things, or things that were new to me. Morse, overall, though also Sherlock and Columbo (can you believe I never saw Columbo till now?) and various others. Unusually I got into several movie fandoms this year too.

[24.] Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I try not to hate, and no, I don't think so.

[25]. What was the best book you read?
Zen and the Art if Motorcycle Maintenance.

[26.] What was your greatest musical discovery?
Les Mis.

[27.] What did you want and get?
Love and patience. I need a lot of both.

[28.] What did you want and not get?
A job and a home of my own.

[29.] Favorite film of this year?
Oh, that's hard...I don't go to see many and I can never remember which ones I saw when. For pure enjoyment, probably X-Men: First Class. For actual goodness, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

[30.] What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
It was almost a year ago - I don't remember! I was 29.

[31.] What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Job, home.

[32.] How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
Non-existent.

[33.] What kept you sane?
The usual suspects. Loved ones, my journal, and fiction.

[34.] Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Ooh, hard one. There have been several new discoveries this year. I'm not sure I can pick just one.

[35.] Who do you miss?
The same as usual.

[36.] Who was the best new person you met?
I've met several nice new LJ friends.

[37.] Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011:
Nothing comes out of nothing. We make our own 'luck'. How you choose to live matters more than how you're obliged to live. Who you are is more important than what you are.
