Duke Nukem 3D was 1996. I think Duke Nukem Forever wasn't *announced* until 1998. I definitely remember reading about it in an article of PC Gamer in 1998 (it was in the first copy of PC Gamer I bought from a damn STORE since moving back to England, and that was in 98). I think it was a 'first announced' kind of thing, or a confirming of rumours article.
...I remember because I was so excited, 'cos I loved Duke Nukem 3D. So many shattered dreams...
Well initially there's the usual stretching things out a bit to get people more excited, then having to redo all the graphics so they're top of the line, then getting an awesome storyline to compete with similar games, and then...
I'm just messing with you, they're a bunch of incompetents
Yeah, like I said, this is only a partial list at best.
What really gets me is not so much the total list (because making one studio face up to the accomplishments of dozens is a little unfair) so much as it is the fact that you can grab any game from the list at random, and most of the time find a franchise that formed, and produced several sequels in the time it took Duke Nukem to produce just one.
I mean, come on, freaking Half Life. Original game, two expansions, sequel, two additional episodes, spin-off game (Portal) and possibly the most epic mod community of all time.
Does anyone honestly believe that Duke Nukem Forever will be a better game than Half Life 2? A more relevant game? That it will have a greater impact on the gaming community?

Was it really 98 since the last game? thought it was longer for some reason.
*points at Bioshock* that has Bioshock 2 and Bioshock infinite is going to be released soon I believe.
Also on the list, after checking, Sims 1-3 + the gazzilion expansions, add-ons and vanity packs.
3D Realms really have managed to take Epic Fail to new heights.
