A Valentine's Day Song.

Feb 14, 2008 15:20

I was going to refrain from any sort of Valentine's Day post, because I keep seeing posts complaining that every single single on their friends list was posting bitter, cynical posts about the holiday.

Well, Something happened. A few days ago, braider posted that Valentine's mailbox meme that's going around, introducing it with "I am, apparently, a Scottish love-sheep."

And so did she embody my muse. Pen, paper, mountain dulcimer and voice conspired to create my special song for Valentine's day: Scottish Love Sheep (mp3)

Lyrics behind cut
Scottish Love Sheep
Peter Alway
(the recording is capo negative 2--I worked out the chords on my DAA dulcimer, but it turned out to play and sound better on my CGG dulcimer, so that is what I recorded)

(Chorus:)
A* D*
She's a Scottish love sheep
A* G*
She's a Scottish love sheep
A* G* A* D*
She's wild and woolly, not a lass I could keep
A* D* A* G*
And walking the highlands I often do weep
A* G* E* A*
For I'll ne'er again lie with my Scottish love sheep

D A D Em
Oh, once when I wandered all over this land
D A D Em
I met a fair maiden--at least a fair lamb
D A D Em
Her father admitted, yes she’s a bit odd
D A D E*
Her mother said nothing---she just baahed

(Chorus)

D A D Em
She sat in a corner with curly white hair
D A D Em
And working her needles she knit herself bare
D A D Em
Of her great beauty I needed no proof
D A D E*
I asked for her hand and she gave me a hoof

(Chorus)

D A D Em
For at a fine restaurant our courtship did stop
D A D Em
When she ordered a salad I had the lamb chop
D A D Em
While my son or my daughter does grow in her belly
D A D E*
I loved her sister, along with mint jelly

(Chorus, repeating last line)

*indicates power chord or drone chord
