It's February! That means February Album-Writing Month. And I wrote me a song. The first half of the chorus came to me as I woke up yesterday, and the rest was a challenge to make the song something less dumb than the title implies:
Dumbest Song (mp3). The lyrics and chords are below the cut. I should add that the verse about Bach refers to the true story behind his "Muisical Offering:"
Dumbest Song
Peter Alway (Feb 1&2 2014)
G D C G
When the smallest troglodyte stepped out to greet the moon
G D C D
And instead of howling sang a silly little tune
G D C G
Certainly the song she sang it had to be the worst
G D C G
But she couldn’t help it ‘cause it also was the first
Chorus:
G D C G
Hey, It’s the dumbest song, it’s the dumbest in the west
G D C D
Hey, it’s the dumbest song, but she/he/you had to write the rest
G D C G
‘Cause, when the muse comes by you take what she will give
G D C G
And if someone sings along the music’s gonna live
G D C G
When King Fred of Prussia gave ol’ Bach a stupid tune
G D C D
Poor Sebastian organized this jingle none could croon
G D C G
When he built up counterpoint around the wretched thing
G D C G
He produced a masterpiece, his fuguey offering
(Chorus)
G D C G
Did you ever wake up with a song inside your head
G D C D
Something pure and perfect while you’re lying in your bed
G D C G
It’s a song mysterious, etherial of mood
G D C G
Till you sing it out to find it’s childish and crude.
(Chorus)
