For a moment, I read that as "A city that doesn't have any books." It was a very odd and terrifying thought, or perhaps an adventurous one. What would it be like, I wondered, a city without books?

LOL, that's exactly what I saw when I read it too! I was thinking "where the heck is this?"

Well, I don't know for sure what they have in mind, but I would guess that such a reading a) shouldn't be too long and b) should be entertaining. While probably thousands of romantic scenes from Peter's novels would suggest themselves, I think I would go for something like "Gordon, the self-made cat" or one of the fables included in "The Line Between." Since there is just nothing you couldn't like about those, you should be totally on the safe side.

You could of course spice the romance level up with one of his poems or songs. Actually I included "None but a harper" on a wedding CD for two friends of mine.
