Nackie can sing 'The wheels on the bus' but he can't quite say 'On the bus', so he says 'The wheel ah ba gus'.

The other day when we were driving, he pointed out the window at an airplane.

N: Airplane!
P: Yeah, where's it going?
N: Airport!
P: Yeah!
N: Pilot!
P: Yeah, the pilot is flying the airplane.
N: Good job!

SO cute! I just love those conversations. I like that I get to spend a decent portion of my regular work day verklempt over cuteness. And now for a deeper question: I don't know if Nackie notices airplanes a lot- but Natalie does, as did most other children of her age that I've cared for. Hellicopters, airplanes and trucks. She would go to Travel Town everyday if I'd take her. And we didn't introduce this fixation to her. There are some books with cars and some toys of course, but just mixed in with all the other themes. So my question is- why do toddlers tend to fixate on these modes of transportation? Why not trees? Clouds? Sidewalks? Scooters? Cats? Garden hoses? Bikes? Well wait, she talks about motorcycles too. Well you get the idea. Anyway, is it because these things are big and loud and they move- or is there some deeper evolutionary force at work?! And if ( ... )
