Quantum of Solace

So I've been asked to update more, so here's a quickie review of the Quantum of Solace.

NB, I’ve made sure that there aren’t any spoilers, what I’ve mentioned is obvious stuff.

It's a good film, but quite confusing. A friend sent me a message saying he was totally lost, so I made sure to pay attention. It starts off straight after the end of the previous film, Casino Royal. They bring Mr. White in for an interrogation (he’s the guy who’s we guess is behind Le Chiffre in Casino Royal, who managed to black mail Vesper into betraying Bond by kidnapping her Algerian boyfriend). Italy looks great in the film they found some great places to film. However the film moves around a lot, it goes to Bolivia via a brief visit to the opera in Austria. We have the typical very successful businessman who gives large amounts to environmental projects (Mr Greene - gotta love the names they give these bad guys), but is really the villain of the film.

What annoyed me about the film is the huge amount of product placement; it felt like an advert for Sony/Sony Ericsson and Ford. We expect Aston Martins in the film, but Range Rovers, Volvos and Ford SUVs, no thanks.

Over all the film is good, but Casino Royal is better, if you can watch Casino Royal before seeing Quantum of Solace, then so much the better. Daniel Craig makes such an unlikely Bond, but he does make a great Bond. I get the impression he’s a dumb guy who is an excellent blank canvas for acting direction. Or perhaps because he doesn’t emote much, he presents a mask, just as a real life MI:6 agent might have to… I’m not sure…

Oh and the other bond girl is called Agent Fields, Strawberry Fields, classy!
