I know these two paintings are unrelated but it's pretty kool where the imagination can take you. The first artwork of Newton in a cave suggests Newton was trapped in his cocoon of narrow views. He is looking down and using a compass because he thinks the world is easily measurable and plotted. I don't think Blake thought this about the world. He ( Read more... )

I have a different music collection in my car to the average uni student I'm guessing.
Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison to name a few. Solid musicians. Music just ain't tha same these days.

Don't undermine yourself Pete- I think what you have to say about the links between these two figures DOES have an "academic" substance... not that the word "academic" is necessarily the right word with reference to Blake... who was trying so hard NOT to be ACADEMIC.... but you are absolutely right... there is a real conceptual link between these two images... closed off from wider perception- by science and by materialism....
