BLAKE WEEK SEVEN - "And is there not eternal fire, and eternal chains?"

Last semester I roasted the character of King Lear and stated exactly why I didn't like him. King Lear was power-hungry and arrogant. Don't get me started on him again though. I could write another post on him. I only let him off because he did reform before he died which is a shame because he didn't get to use his new found views in his life. But ( Read more... )

Hey Tucks that is inspired Genius material... I love the way you are able to take a serious literary text and make it relevant to our own times, interlarding it with some rollicking Aussie humour and underpinned by a real sense of what is right and wrong in the situation... Rock on Tucks!!!

You wouldn't make a fair judge Pete. You have to count to a million before you judge someone!!!! Have you ever thought about the fact that people can be rehabilitated? I've stuck up for Bromion before, not because of the rape, but because he is a product of the society in which he is a part. I think you grill him a bit tooooo harshly, I don't think Oothon blames him as much as she blames Theotormon for not being sympathetic about her predicament.
I love your take on this topic of Bromion's devious desires though. It is fresh and authentic, yet I still stand by the view that both men are nuts (pardon the pun).

Yo Fadia,

Thanks for the reply. I hope I answer your questions successfully...

I know people can be rehabilitated. Read my first paragraph luv about King Lear changing his stripes and how it was a shame he died soon after.

As for Bromion being a "product of society", if this is so then why didn't Theotormon rape anyone? He is a male from the same society. Why did he keep his utensil in his pants? That is the flaw in your argument Fadia. Nice try though ;)

Oothoon doesn't blame Bromion much at all because I think she is deadset scared crapless of him. He just raped her. Why would she be having a go at him? To provoke him to do it again? Bromion means nothing to Oothoon so that is another reason why didn't focus on him and spent all her time chasing Theotormon.

That is how I see it anyway.
Hope that helps.

Pete.
