Seriously though, this was really cool! It started out sounding like nonfiction, and then it was just like "wait, okay, I'm pretty sure this is fiction, but realistic fiction" and then it was just like "....waaaaaaait a minute here. Arooooooooo!" Loved the gradual reveal and the way you spun the myth away from the typical curse\terrible disease\mindless dangerous beastie trope.
Hahahaahah. How did I not once think of that while I was writing it? Anyway, thank you!! I was hoping it would have some degree of mystery and satisfaction of figuring it out, even if it's just a little bit.
The thing I like about this sort of story is that the creature hidden inside is such an apt metaphor for who we all sort of are. There's there person we show and the person we really are. How appropriate that this character is in a sort of human service industry where she has to constantly hide both how she might feel about any given person she helps and also hide this, perhaps, darker secret.
The mood of this piece made me think of the remix of Something in the Air by David Bowie from American Psycho. Hurray!
Thank you! I didn't really think about that while I was writing it, but it's very true. We're all like this in some way or another. I think I wanted her to be in a profession that brings her so close to the lives of others because it's such a strong contrast with her personal life. And thank you once again for the song c:
I love this, and love the idea that someone with a secret of being a werewolf or somesuch would also be keeping a blog. That is so fantastic! And I love the part about being excited to find people like themselves, and simultaneously wanting to shut them out (sometimes I feel that way about fellow introverts, or fellow folks with anxiety, it's like yaaayy, and then no, god I'm tired, go away! .. but come back later.. ;) )
Thank you! (Sorry it took me so long to reply.) I'm so glad you found something in it to relate to. I don't really know where this story came from, so it's great to see that it resonates.
