Well, I fell right off that Good Stuff bandwagon, didn't I? Fail. It was for a happy reason, though: I was overwhelmed with freelance work. See, when I left the Publisher last year, I signed on for part-time at the Magazine. Fortunately, I started doing some graphic design freelance work to supplement that income, and though it has sort of ebbed ( Read more... )

I love freelancing because the work = money equation becomes so obvious! I really hate that about my desk job, the fact that I get paid the same if I do nothing or if I bust ass. It's such a good feeling to work late hours and then have a giant paycheck arrive in the mail. So, congrats!

And congrats on the skinny jeans too. They look hot!

Yeah, the part that's hard is that when I'm paid hourly for copy editing and per job for graphic design, sometimes it's all too easy to see the imbalance. For the same pay I can do twenty hours of mind-numbing proofing or 2-3 design projects... It's not hard to see which is more fun, and a better use of my time. Still, it all pays better than my real job! But man, I do love that "billable hours" thing. It's motivating!

Thank you!

Skinny jeans! I wear a size 20 and I have skinny jeans - much to everyone else's chagrin, perhaps? ;) To what do you attribute your shrinking waistline? Just your crazy run-around NYC lifestyle? Or a particular regimen of pilates and protein shakes?

To be fair, I think I could've given skinny jeans a shot MUCH sooner than I did. I'm still working on having an accurate body image. Anyway, re: shrinking, I wrote about it at length here but the short answer I give people is, “I stopped eating five slices of bread with dinner.” Truly, at the root, that’s what it is. I’ve learned to eat sensible portions and to limit my high-calorie low-nutrition foods. I still eat them -- oh yes, I still eat them (hello, ice cream and cookie sandwich I had for dessert on Monday) -- but I don’t eat them constantly, nor do I eat them in great volume. It is remarkable how easy this is to achieve, and how quickly the weight comes off. I’m still wrapping my brain around the fact that I’m no longer a “sturdy girl.” I’ve always identified that way, and I kind of have to slap myself and remind myself that it’s not true anymore, nor has it been true for a while. Best of all, I’ve not sacrificed the kinds of foods I like to eat or cook, I’m just making better choices throughout the day to accommodate.

Thanks so much for the link - my Livejournal time has been very sporadic, so I'm sure I've missed a lot recently.

Congrats on your hard work, and I like what you said about having a 'shut up' reply. Not very many people can claim that they're losing weight to donate an organ to a loved one. It's been said before, but you rock. Here's hoping you let yourself enjoy lots of ice cream and jello post-op, yeah?
