Meal Planning, the Heather Way

A number of people have asked how I make my meal plans each week, so I spent too much time and went into too much detail this morning. Please! Bore yourself and read on! If you just want some links to some vegetarian dinners, skip to the end!

This is totally fascinating. Ed and I are absolutely terrible at meal planning. We almost never cook our meals or go to the grocery store -- which sucks given the amazing stores we live near (Bi-Rite! Rainbow!). I've been trying to figure out why we're so incompetent at it... And this post is very helpful for providing a kind of template for how to do it. Thanks!

What I don't get is that it sounds like your week gets very rigidly planned out. What if you have a meal planned and then some friends are like, "Let's go out for dinner tonight!" Do you skip your dinner plans (probably wasting the ingredients you've bought) and go out with your friends? Or do you say to your friends, "Sorry, we already have plans"? I think this is the main reason we suck at this: our weeks are never fully planned out in advance, so if we plan a bunch of meals and buy ingredients there's a lot of potential for waste when things come up last minute (and they usually do).

This is truly fantasticamazingawesome. NoteMaster Lite doesn't exist for Android, so I've downloaded a bunch of different note apps to see which shares/syncs the easiest.
