I totally know where your coming from! I use to be in sweet/punk/loli and it's just hard to keep up with that fashion it requires a lot of money and effort and its hard to wear them in public. It's not realistic to wear in my country. If in Japan yes. Gyaru to me is affordable, better for my age and easy for me to wear ^^ and I too like to keep that rock flare into my gyaru style <3
I can't wear gyaru, i think its totally inapropriate for someone my age (25) to walk around showing so much leg and skin but i always think young girls look cute in it. Well it depends on how much skin they are showing but anyway...
I guess lolita just isn't for everyone. I'm hooked and its only making me feel better and better. I don't spend that much either as I only buy second hand 99% of the time.*
about the too much skin issue, I guess it depends on which body type a woman has... I've seen girls in their 30's and looking awesome... but gyaru isn't all about showing skin, for example girls in the magazine popteen look very cute and even childish and women in the magazine jelly look sexy yet sophistcated... and I guess when it comes to gyaru you come to learn on with the years what will suit your body type, not all of us have great legs: example: me
( ... )
I have a 90cm waist and 109 cm bust and i started wearing lolita especially because i dislike girls who show too much skin in any kind of fashion. So you have to understand my point. I like hime gyaru though, some acessories and shoes and coats. I do obcess over brand but i don't buy it new.
