Passing the art block thanks to a fantastic book : DIGITAL PAINTING - Techniques Vol.1
Everything I drew recently ended up in the trash. It's been the first time since 2006 and to be honest I think it's REALLY not the best moment to happen with the
spn_reversebang challenge ahead. Well, when it comes to art block, it's never the right moment anyway but still, I wish it would have happened later, when something that includes the words "Big bang" wasn't involved.
I don't have a problem of inspiration, I still have one idea per minute but I am just unable to reach the result I want to. To give you an example, my improvised art beta (who has been hired against her will, poor POOR girl...) has her LJ box invaded by drawings named "first version", "reworked version", "final version" not to mention the very popular "it's-not-finished-but-I-will-send-you-something-soon version". To cut a long story short, poor quality arts full of mistakes. I don't even want to talk about
felisblanco who has been waiting for illustrations for The Doors of Time for ages, and even if I sent her 3 or 4 drawings in the past couple of months, I am just unable to finish the 4 illustrations or so that are still on my HD...
Thanks God, the block is now over and it's thanks to a fantastic book that made me feel like trying new techniques and taught me a LOT of stuffs concerning brushes and enhancing even more the realism of my drawings : Digital Painting - Techniques 1 - Master collection. It cost me 30€ but it worth every penny centime.
The book provides precise tutorials by famous illustrators, all in color, fully detailed and is really helpful for people like me who just love experimenting new techniques. However, you have to be an advanced PS user to really enjoy all the possibilities offered by the technical explanations and you will learn a lot whether you're interested in portraits, matte painting, creating customed brushes or even speed painting.
Here are some (blurred...sorry) photos of the book.
Two tutorials to create monsters and ugly creatures : it's definitely for me :
A WIP by Mélanie Delon :
Two very useful tutorials I am using at the moment to create arts for the Reverse Bang : portraits and city scape.
If you are into digital painting, this book is definitely a must-have. Highly recommended!!
For the lulz (and for training a bit) : a fake Supernatural Japanese poster in speed painting featuring Sam (for once...) and a friend (Photoshop CS + Painter)
Voilà!
That's it for today, see you soon folks!
