Fan art : Dean Winchester - All Hell Breaks Loose

First post ever using my LJ so please folks, forbid the poor general presentation of the page, the horrible header created while watching Jack Bauer saving the world and the link to the image inserted in the middle of nowhere. I'm not the Queen of HTML (well, not yet...)

The full size version is available here  :  www.petite-madame.com/dessins/original/spn-dean-winchester-all-hell-breaks-loose.jpg

Here is Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) one of the main characters of the Tv show Supernatural (CW) often described by critics as "The best show on Tv that nobody watches" which is I think a pretty good and accurate description.

For those you don't know anything about Spn, here a quick storyline : Dean hunts ghosts and demons with his brother Sam in a kick-ass '67 Chevy Impala . The Colt in his hand is the ultimate weapon against Evil. It is said it was built by Samuel Colt himself and can kill any "supernatural anything" as Dean says (except 5 things in the whole Creation including Lucifer). The inscription on the side of the gun "Non Timebo Mala" means "I fear no evil". That gun had vanished in Season 3 stolen by a character called Bella (no, not Bella Swan, calm down...) but guess what, at last, on 05x10's episode (the mid-season finale),  Abandon All Hope, the Colt is back from the dead. Enough with "monster of the week" crap and Paris Hilton cameo that almost made us forget that it was the end of the world and that Michael and Lucifer wanted to use Sam & Dean as their official "meat suits". The Winchesters are back to business ;)

Let's talk about technique

I used Photoshop CS, on Windows XP, mainly the "dry media brushes set" (they are default brushes, you don't need to download them on the Internet). For highlights, it was mainly one of the basic brushes and a brush I downloaded on the net with a layer set to "soft light" with an opacity of 30%-50%.
This drawing gave me some hard times. Oh yes it did!!! Whatever I may do it didn't look like Jensen Ackles. I had to almost draw the face from scratch EIGHT times, yes, EIGHT "fudging" times and I'm not even sure this final version even looks like him or not. If you want to see the "Road to Epic fails", you can still check my DA Journal here and have a good laugh : petite-madame.deviantart.com/journal/28504966/

Since, I received Painter and PaintPro Shop as Xmas present so I don't use that technique anymore. My drawings are more detailed because the level of details you can reach with Painter is just incredible particularly with the "Acrylic" and "Chalk" tools.

See you soon folks ;)
