In response to Not Cancer - A Campfire Discussion over at sick_wilson

Illness/Injury:
1.) Depression
2.) Dissociative Identity Disorder
3.) Dissociative Fugue
4.) Hoarding
5.) PTSD
6.) Eating Disorder
7.) Complications Following Liver Transplant
8.) Broken Wrist
9.) Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
10.) Generalized Anxiety Disorder
11.) Nervous Breakdown
What season would you have placed it in:
1.) Any season, although I agree with what most people have said about having it begin post-"Resignation."
2.) Between Seasons 4 and 5 as a result of Amber's death. Or, possibly as a result of House being hospitalized in Season 6, or House crashing his car into Cuddy's House in Season 7.
3.) See #2.
4.) See #2. What really made me think of this is the scene where Wilson is doing the dishes and has left Amber's lipstick-stained coffee cup untouched.
5.) See #2.
6.) See #2. Either binge eating disorder to fill the void of either Amber or House's absence, or anorexia nervosa as a means of regaining control in his life.
7.) Following "Wilson."
8.) In between Seasons 7 and 8.
9.)-11.) Any season really. Some potential symptoms of OCD (although not necessarily definitive) are his particularities regarding the refrigerator and the dishwasher. He could also potentially develop symptoms of any of these as a means of regaining order in his life after any trauma throughout the series.
How House would have handled it:
1.) I agree with a lot of what other people have said here. Perhaps Wilson would see a therapist and we'd see a few episodes every now and then of Wilson visiting him. Perhaps House would recommend someone. It would be interesting if Wilson's therapist were Nolan, and how House might deal with that, if Wilson's depression came up at a later time in the series.
2.) yarroway's Man In The Mirror explores this rather well.
3.) I'm not really sure.
4.) I can see him being insulting and sarcastic until he realizes the severity of the problem. He then might try to talk Wilson through it or find a therapist for him.
5.) See second sentence of #4.
6.) See #4.
7.) House would probably take care of things himself and end up getting far too involved, being too subjective. He'd probably eventually figure it out. In all honesty, I think this would make for some rather interesting House/team interactions.
8.) Sitting by Wilson's side in the hospital, intense but well-hidden guilt.
9.) See #4.
10.) and 11.) House might sort of indirectly have Wilson move in with him, have Wilson sleep in bed with him, have Wilson sleep in the same room. Potentially additional ailments might include bedwetting, nightmares, and sleepwalking.
How would Wilson have handled it:
1.) I agree with what a lot of other people have said here. It would be interesting to see him avoiding therapy and medication for awhile, not wanting to admit the severity of his problem.
2.) See #2 for the previous question.
3.) I'm not really sure. With this particular issue, Wilson wouldn't have any idea what was going on, that anything had changed, and he'd assume he really was whatever person he had become.
4.) He would probably keep the issue just in his home, not at work. He would go to great lengths to hide it and try to keep people away from his home, especially House.
5.) He would probably deny a problem, try to handle it on his own, and prevent anyone from finding out.
6.) Once again, he would likely try to hide it, although at any sort of hospital event or at lunches with House it may become apparent. Or, if Wilson were to avoid such situations. If it manifested in Season 7, especially during the period of time after Sam left him, it might be part of the reason he is avoiding dating, so he won't have to go out to dinner.
7.) I'm not really sure.
8.) He might be really angry with House. Or he might avoid the issue, being more concerned about other things. He may blame himself.
9.)-11.) Probably try to avoid thinking about it/denying how much he is suffering, to himself and others.
How would it have affected the show, if at all:
Every single one of these scenarios would take place in the background, or be explored over the course over a few episodes or through an arc. Best examples of how this was done in the series, IMO? Cameron's HIV scare and drug experimention, and Euphoria Parts 1 and 2.
Anything else to mention:
Not that I can think of.
