Just a few words. I see you liked that Irene was a dominatrix, but I feel quite the opposite... I don't deny she was clever and good at manipulation, and I really enjoyed her scenes with Sherlock and their mind games.
I didn't like that Irene had a sex-related job (or better say - occupation?) In Elementary Irene Adler was an artist, she restored paintings, and she had many more skills of a smart & educated woman.
I was honestly disappointed that BBC writers made Irene Adler who she was... I'm fine with her orientation, but I know I would have liked her more if she was a journalist, writer, ballet dancer or scientist. It looks like if she is a woman, sex and good looks are her strongest points. I don't think it's a good message for young female audience. What do you think?
I definitely do see your point. I find it interesting that she's an artist in Elementary. I'm not entirely sure what her occupation was in the original stories
( ... )
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I do see your point more clearly. It's a complicated subject, so it's interesting to look at it at different angles.
Irene was an opera singer in Sherlock Holmes books.
"I got the impression that she recognizes the fact that someone's sexuality can be their ultimate vulnerability, and she exploits that. She even appeared to be attempting to exploit that in Sherlock." - I agree completely!
I love talking about TV shows and characters from different angles. :) I enjoyed reading your thoughts. (I must admit though I'm afraid to approach a larger community and try and join in the discussion, especially since the second season ended some time ago.)
