Yeah, I know, I know. This sort of enthusiasm is entirely inappropriate and whatever. I imagine it wouldn't exactly be a great PR move or whatever to let go of two bigname Mariners in the same season -- is Boone popular in the Seattle area?
I know I'm just having total delusions of the wild excellence of a Jeter-Boone-Olerud DP set, but it is incredibly, incredibly exciting to see people who can field in Yankee blue and white.
Yeah, Boone is pretty popular (though I'm not in Seattle, just watching and reading). When Gammons's story came out the reaction wasn't good. The perception, fairly or unfairly, is that we're in the shape we're in because management's been incompetent and cheap, and this would just feed into that.
Plus, they're talking about getting right back into contention next year, which is probably a pipe dream but presumably they'd need Boone to even think about that.
