why bigots fear marriage

May 25, 2009 02:57

It's very late at night and I got caught up in an editorial dpolicar linked to about gay marriage. As Dave said, it leaves you gobsmacked. I just wrote what is pretty much a line-by-line rebuttal because that is how intensely wrong it is. Please be advised that there will be much cursing.( Read more... )

Yep, all modern wedding toasts are really celebrating the protection of another female cooter from penetration by more than one dude.

(sporfle!) Wow, talk about an awkward wedding toast. I mean, I thought mine at lillibet's wedding pushed that boundary, but... wow. What an image.

Also, as Dave pointed out, there are many, many gay couples who would have married 15 years ago if they had the fucking right to at the time. Statistics? A little skewed.

Did I? Cool. I'm right on board with this observation, certainly. And have all the reliable memory of a... um, you know, one of those... things.

I think by "actual" he's saying gay people always no exceptions always have sex before marriage, Actually, I'd be really interested to hear about exceptions. I've had really interesting conversations with people who have come out while still virgins... that experience is very different from mine, and the resulting conversation was illuminating... and someone who got married to a member of the same sex while a virgin would be intriguing in much the same ( ... )

For some reason, I had it in my head that you suggested an explanation for older couples getting married...must have read it somewhere else.

Actually, I'd be really interested to hear about exceptions. I've had really interesting conversations with people who have come out while still virgins... that experience is very different from mine, and the resulting conversation was illuminating... and someone who got married to a member of the same sex while a virgin would be intriguing in much the same way. I don't think I know any.

I would be interested, too. Virginity is such a weird concept. Personally, I think both partner's comfort levels should determine what they decide to do and when...I have a gay friend who has been out for years and has chosen only to have oral sex, because that's what he's comfortable with. I don't know if he considers himself a "virgin," or if anyone else would, but I doubt he's the only guy out there.

Purple prose aside, I'm having fun trying to grasp what our sense of ourselves as child-rearing creatures ( ... )

And yet we'll somehow manage to rear children in it. I guess more or less the way other apes do.

Contrarianism for contrarianism's sake, not much else.

Er, who is being a contrarian, me or him?

Wow. You've got a stronger constitution than I do, just for being able to read through all that dreck. I've gotta say, if these are the arguments the anti crowd has been reduced to, we've already won...

Yeah, it boggles me that anyone would buy into it.

I agree with Tenille on this one. At this point, my eyes just glaze over whenever I come across stuff like this.

First off, I must point out that Sam Schulman has come from the future (06/01/09) to warn us all! If only he could have given lottery numbers ( ... )

5. There are already incest laws on the books. These vary from state to state and are not as stringent as the author assumes (he needs to fact check this shit). Also, the example you provided reminded me of "Dear Prudence" from May 14, in which a man discovered that his wife's family had a hand me down husband. This may weird out some people, but it isn't illegal ( ... )
