It's actually even worse in parts of Latin America. In El Salvador the woman who went for an abortion is jailed a minimum of 2 years, and it goes up to 30-50 years if the foetus is "viable".

One of the bad legacies of Pope JP II and his batch of anti-liberation-theology conservative cardinals..

Who decides when a woman's life is threatened? Law-makers? Politicians? Laws by nature can't encompass every woman's situation. So who gets to draw that line? Shouldn't it be the woman herself?
