Heidi and the boys were driving home from their trip to the hospital; both Simon and Monty were quiet, the burns and marks on their father's body were too much to bear she though, and the way he dismissed them so easily, it broke her heart. She wiped a tear out of her eye and quickly placed her hand back on the steering wheel so her sons wouldn't notice.
But Simon did notice, he was only eight but he was a smart kid, he could tell this was taking its toll on her, as was something else, the reason they went to the hospital. "It'll be okay, Mom."
Heidi glanced over at him, she blinked as if she didn't understand "What will, honey?"
"We'll look after you, dad he..." Simon couldn't finish his sentence, he wanted to say that his father would get better and they would be a family again but he couldn't. He did love him yes, but he loved his mother too. Grandma could look after their dad, he and Monty had to take care of their Mom.
"Thank you Si." She was so glad that after the split Angela hadn't petitioned for the custody of her sons, she would be lost without them.
When they arrived home the boys ran upstairs to their room to play their computer games. Heidi followed behind, stopping at the room they had prepared for the special guest they were expecting.
"Mom?"
She turned to see Simon at the door, she smiled.
"You know, she'll going to be here soon."
Simon nodded and walked towards her, taking her hand and squeezing it "And we'll look after her too."
Heidi smiled down at her son "Go, play your game now because after dinner we have the exciting world of Math homework to delve in to."
Simon sighed and headed back into the bedroom he shared with Monty.
Heidi looked around the nursery and frowned. She had gone to the hospital to tell Nathan that she was pregnant; not only had she gotten the use of her legs back but she had also been blessed with a child but seeing him today, how he was with his sons, she was having second thoughts about telling him.
She ran her hand over her stomach lightly, shaking her head "Some day, but not today." With that she turned off the light and headed into the boys' room to watch them play.
