Another Forgotten Birthday

Heidi sat at the kitchen table waiting for her husband to come home from work. After spending the day with her children Nathan's mother kindly agreed to taking the boys off her hands for the evening so that she and Nathan could celebrate her birthday in peace.

If only Nathan knew about it.

He had been busy at work a lot lately, Heidi could understand that; the days start to meld together and sometimes you forget where you are and what you are what commitments needed to attend...except he had a secretary whose job was exactly that.

Heidi sighed, this hadn't been the first time he had forgotten her birthday, the same thing had happened the year before as well but she was never one to make a fuss about it; the kids did, they showered her in gifts but Nathan? No.

She looked down at her black cocktail dress and frowned, it wasn't going to get worn out that evening. She might as well just throw on her pajamas and collapse into bed, maybe get some reading done.

Heidi slipped off her shoes and was ready to make her way to the bedroom when the doorbell rang. Who could that be? She walked over and was surprised to see Peter on the other side. "Hi, what are you doing here?"
