Heidi sat at the kitchen table waiting for her husband to come home from work. After spending the day with her children Nathan's mother kindly agreed to taking the boys off her hands for the evening so that she and Nathan could celebrate her birthday in peace

Unless he had gotten home early and he and Heidi had started her birthday evening a little early. Peter, often the impulsive one, hadn't called to let either of them know he was coming to drop off a gift, and he probably should have ( ... )

She looked at present he handed to her and she wondered curiously what he had gotten her, when the boys had given her something she could tell just by the shape what it was, Peter was more of an enigma. She gave it a little shake. "Can I eat it?" Because since she and Nathan weren't having dinner together, she hadn't really eaten.
"If you were looking for a party, you are in the wrong place I am afraid. I was about to head to bed." And maybe do some crying, yeah that sounded like fun.

Heidi wet her lips and smiled. "Alight, I suppose I can go out for a bite." She slipped her shoes back on and fixed herself up even though she already looked quite good. "That present better be worth it." She walked over and took his arm. "Remind me why you don't have a girlfriend again?"

Actually Heidi was looking forward to the change of scenery, the restaurants Nathan took her to were nice but she always felt like they were on display there, that someone was always watching them. So the anonymity of this place could be just what she needed to actually have fun on her birthday.
Just as she was about to go inside Peter said that he had forgotten his wallet. "Peter, it's okay really." Heidi didn't mind paying but her brother-in-law had run off back to the SUV. Heidi shook herself and went inside, the host smiled and showed her to a table. She sat down and looked at the menu, every now and then glancing at the door, she hoped Peter hadn't ditched her, he seemed to be taking a while.

His second thought was that, tipsy as Heidi might be, it was definitely not an accident. Unless Peter made some kind of last ditch attempt to prevent them both from seriously double-crossing his brother, this was happening. Right now.
As if Nathan thinks twice every time he does it to her. You deserve this, you --His thought dissipated as he realized Heidi was looking at him, her eyes roaming over his upper body possessively, as if he were the real dessert of the evening. He shivered as Heidi brushed the soft petals of the rose across his bare skin, and once he realized what she was actually asking him, his heart began to race, a strange, but not entirely unpleasant mix of nervousness and desire dominating his empathic sense. Not only his feelings, but hers as well. She felt exactly like he did right at this moment, but she wasn't letting it stop her from getting what ( ... )

"No. I mean, yeah. I don't know -- I guess -- I guess I'm just going to see myself out."
You're an idiot, Petrelli.
His face burned with embarrassment yet again. What did he think, they were going to go down to the kitchen and have a romantic breakfast together or something? Just because her husband was the world's biggest asshole didn't mean she was going to throw away ten years of marriage, even if she'd decided to be as unfaithful as Nathan himself.
Heidi was on her way to the bathroom even as he stood there, and Peter turned to grab the doorknob, when out of the corner of his eye he caught a flash of motion -- Heidi's nightgown sliding down her body onto the tiled floor. She hadn't even shut the door. Well why would she, honestly? It was her private bathroom. She'd be alone in the house anyway. Heidi had ( ... )

She froze when she heard Peter come into the bathroom, really she thought he would be happy to get out of there, she wasn't expecting him to come in and see what she was doing. She heard his voice and Heidi faltered, this really was the part where she should tell him that it meant nothing and that he should get out but Heidi was having trouble finding the words.
It would be okay if she didn't look at him, yeah. She would just stand in the shower while Peter's fit, naked body stood behind her with no funny business going on...at least that was what she told herself but a little slip caused her to move back feeling Peter's semi-hard cock against her. "Oh."

Peter had been standing behind Heidi for a minute or two now, about an arm's length of space between them, and she'd made no move to turn around to face him, hadn't even said a word to acknowledge his presence.
But instead of letting his uncertainty and his nerves get the best of him, he tried to concentrate on what she was feeling. There was a sort of conflict going on within her, an emotional turmoil that consisted of her love for Nathan and her obligation to not let this go any further than it already had, and her desire to feel needed and well, desired. He wouldn't lie to himself: even if he'd wanted to leave before, he definitely didn't now. Peter watched the rivulets of water swirl down her back, over her hips and down her legs, and he couldn't help thinking again that she was beautiful. All of her ( ... )

Heidi's eyes snapped awake and looked over at the other side of the bed, a little surprised to see it empty. Heidi saw him make a hasty escape out the window, a little dangerous but that didn't seem like it would faze him. For a moment she wondered what had gotten him so rattled but that was when she heard the keys in the door oh god, Nathan...She took a breath to calm herself before going out to face him, her newfound empathy gave her the strength she needed to give her husband a good talking to if it came to that. She walked into the lounge room and leaned against the doorway with her arms folded, he looked rough. "Hey honey, how was wherever you pretended to be this evening?" In that ( ... )

What the hell, did she grow that smart mouth overnight?
"It was great, baby," Nathan said, recovering pretty smoothly for his inebriated state. "How much housework did you pretend to do today? Obviously dinner isn't in the oven. You're still in your pajamas and the place is a Goddamned mess," he said, gesturing at the wineglasses on the coffee table and the discarded clothing on the couch. He recognized one of his suit jackets, but didn't remember leaving it there. He'd been in a rush this morning, and Heidi hadn't let him in his own damn bedroom. Who knows what the hell he did anymore?
He took off his suit jacket and hung it in the foyer closet, made a mental note to try and remember where he'd forgotten his tie, and made an immediate beeline straight for the liquor cabinet.
"Well? What the hell did you do all day?" Nathan added, pouring himself a little more than a splash of Scotch.

He couldn't believe what he was hearing. Never in all their married life had Heidi ever spoken to him quite like that. Sure, she'd put him in his place from time to time, but never like this. He wouldn't pretend to think that Heidi didn't know about his philandering, but never had she outright called him on it. If he hadn't been so drunk, and if he hadn't just finished screwing said intern, he might have considered it a turn-on ( ... )
