Another Forgotten Birthday

Dec 02, 2014 18:26

Heidi sat at the kitchen table waiting for her husband to come home from work. After spending the day with her children Nathan's mother kindly agreed to taking the boys off her hands for the evening so that she and Nathan could celebrate her birthday in peace ( Read more... )

Now that he had a plan, he felt a bit more optimistic about everything. It wasn't a grandiose, life-changing plan, but it was good enough for now ( ... )

"I do, I really do. We'll talk tomorrow." She gave him a kiss on the head and gathered up the clothing and toys she had come to get for the children then made her way back to her parents' home. On the way she pulled Peter's watch out and looked at it fondly, she would have to tell him what transpired after he had gone out the window, she doubted he would be happy about it, probably say she was mad for trying to get Nathan to change but Heidi honestly believed he could ( ... )

As was sometimes the case after his healing ability took care of a particularly serious injury, Peter was out cold, dead to the world, until he became increasingly aware of the sound of his phone ringing.

Peter groaned and sat up, and knocked everything off his bedside table fumbling around for it. He scrutinized the caller ID with sleepy eyes, not really in the mood to deal with telemarketers or bill collectors or his mother or Nathan --

Heidi? She didn't call him all that often! Hopefully there was nothing wrong --

Oh, shit. Shit!

The memory of what had happened the night before with her only bolstered his worry into full-blown panic. What if Nathan had discovered what they'd done in his absence? It hadn't escaped him that he had left almost all of his clothes on her sofa, and he was pretty sure he'd been wearing his watch when he'd left his apartment earlier in the day.

"Hey, Heidi," he said, trying not to let any of that come through in his voice. "Is everything okay?"

"Asked you first." He sounded a little out of it really, another Petrelli she had to take care of? It wouldn't surprise her, though Peter was more resilient than Nathan was. "Things are okay, yeah. Nathan and I, we had a long talk. He um..." She sucked her lips.

"Nathan had a rough night but I think he's going to come out the other side a better man. He says he's done Peter, with the alcohol and the interns and everything. I really want to believe him." She sighed. "You know where this is going, you can probably hear it in my voice. I hope you're not too mad."

"May I?" Nathan asked graciously, glad to stand after being on his knees for so long; he wasn't as young as he used to be, and that old injury to his leg would have started to ache after a while. He stepped out of his pants and underwear, and let his wife lead him to the bed they hadn't shared for what felt like forever ( ... )

He was a bit older but still so handsome and he always knew just what to say but his last words did make Heidi snicker. "All day baby? Were you that sure this was going to happen?" She supposed she had been dropping hints at the fact that a reconciliation of that nature was on the table, she had been touching him a lot more, Heidi had missed having contact with him.

"Nathan!" Heidi cried out, she loved it when he got like this, it felt like they were the only two people in existence. She moaned and bit her lip because while she wanted to be loud, Heidi knew too much noise would wake their children and she couldn't have that. "Love you," Heidi told Nathan, kissing him deeply. A few strokes later and it was over, to say she was disappointed was an understatement but she supposed she couldn't really blame Nathan, he had been so worked up she was surprised he had lasted that that long. She met his eyes. "Doing okay there, stud?"

"Oh, Jesus Christ, I'm sorry, honey," Nathan said, the flush that crept to his face and neck now not one of passion but of embarrassment. He had just known that was going to happen. Sex hadn't felt that good in a long, long time, probably because he was either totally plastered or just going through the motions with some other woman. Sobriety, along with its perks, also had its drawbacks ( ... )

It wasn't often one got to see Nathan Petrelli embarrassed, he always liked to be in control of a situation and when he got frustrated a little vein popped out on his hairline, Heidi remembered seeing it that time he tried to put Simon's crib together, she saw it again now.

"Babe, it's okay. Maybe next time I'll seduce you." While it had been a valiant effort, Heidi believed that she would do a much better job and that if she were the in control one, Nathan would last longer. Heidi squeaked when Nathan pulled her close, if she was honest she didn't need his cock, while it was very nice, his mouth and hands were more than enough to get her off.

"Nathan!" Heidi cried out as she came against his fingers, her body shaking from the sensation. "God, you were always so good at that." She kissed him fiercely, smiling. "Did I wear you out?" She wrapped her arm around him, snuggling into him. "I'm going to put that down as a success." She hoped he thought so too.

Nathan sighed, "Oh, God. I forgot that it's Peter's birthday. How do I always fuck these things up?"

Please, Peter. Don't die on your birthday, Nathan thought desperately, biting back tears that threatened to come, his hands shaking badly. He forced himself to concentrate on parking the car without smashing into anything ( ... )

Nathan could be a very commanding presence, most of the time at home he was a quiet man but in court, he was a tiger and right now he was displaying those same traits, it was very attractive and something she could have watched all evening if she didn't have to throw up again ( ... )

It was a cute scene, rare since Nathan had been favoring the bottle over knowing his sons but now the sight filled her heart with joy. She smiled when Nathan asked about the other snowflake, she hadn't planned on telling her sons so early but it felt right. She kneeled down between her boys and gave them a big smile. "Mommy is going to have a baby." The boys looked shocked for a moment then Simon squealed loudly, hugging her tight, Monty smiled hugging her too. She gave them both kisses on the cheek. "You guys continue to help dad okay, I've got to get some things ready for Uncle Peter ( ... )

“I’m fine, honey,” Nathan answered. “I’m just worried that they’re discharging him too soon. Peter’s only been in the hospital for two days.”

It was possible Peter’s healing ability had re-manifested itself, wasn’t it? Nathan could just imagine Peter yanking out his IV lines and jumping out a window in his hospital gown, and nurses with confused looks on their faces when they came in and found their charge had literally flown the coop. Peter had never been one for subtlety.

Then why would he need a ride? He could just teleport right back home if he wanted.Another thing occurred to him just then, something much more problematic ( ... )

Heidi’s hands moved through his hair with such gentleness that Peter’s eyes closed and his body relaxed. God, how he loved having his hair touched. It didn’t matter when or where or by whom, only that it happened once in a while. Peter even went to a salon when he needed a haircut; while infrequent, it was one of the few things he spent his money on frivolously, so he could have his hair washed first. His arousal from before became a lot less important.

Until she said that.

Consider this your birthday present.A memory surfaced in Peter’s mind, unbidden, unwanted. At first ( ... )

But he wasn’t with Nathan. He was with Heidi, and it wasn’t fair to let memories of Nathan intrude on them. He tried to concentrate on what was happening now with Heidi, but the hold that his brother had on him was too strong to resist.

"If my birthday present feels this good, I wonder how my Christmas present's gonna be," Peter sighed, fully immersed in his memory. A fantasy, really. Nathan had made it absolutely clear that the secret they had shared was nothing more to him now than a liability. They were brothers, and it was wrong, and it was dangerous. Nathan needed to wash his hands of it, of him, the one blemish on Nathan’s otherwise perfect life. Peter’s fear had finally been realized. Nathan no longer needed him ( ... )

Being a therapist, Heidi had seen many people at their worst; the tales she could tell about people who had been overstressed, manipulated and abused could fill a book but she had never experienced one first hand like she just had with Peter ( ... )

“Oh, of course," Nathan snapped, sitting down on the loveseat, since the sofa was still covered in dried iced tea. "Don't I just look like the epitome of holiday cheer?"

Heidi looked shaken and stressed, but Nathan only half-noticed it thanks to the adrenaline and the liquor running through his bloodstream. His mother was really a piece of work sometimes.

"Where the hell have you been? I go out to the kitchen because it’s way too quiet in there, and there’s a Goddamned mess all over the table and the floor and you and Peter are nowhere to be found? Why is your hair wet? I thought you showered this morning,” Nathan said, alarm bells starting in the back of his mind, remembering what Ma had said to him before she’d kissed her grandsons and left.

Maybe there was something to his mother’s psychic bullshit after all. Nathan’s memory of the morning after Heidi’s birthday was fuzzy at best; he’d come home from a tryst with his secretary, and Heidi had locked him out of his own damn bedroom. What had she been doing in there?

Sleeping off ( ... )
