I really couldn't have been more happy with this episode, it was lovely. And I'd completely forgotten that bit from The Time of Angels (or Flesh and Stone maybe) that didn't quite make sense at the time. The only thing that was a problem, and this is not a weakness of the writing or the directing or anything, is just that it was difficult to take the peril seriously. We knew the Doctor wasn't going to get erased from history or trapped in a parallel universe, because it's a TV show, and we knew he wasn't going to die (and be forced to regenerate) because we would have heard if Matt Smith was leaving (and I'm glad he isn't because he's bloody wonderful - I love the way that, in his most vulnerable moments, he shows just how old the Doctor really is). This was an unavoidable issue, though, and it didn't stop me from enjoying the episode immensely, and also shedding a couple of tears.
The first shot of Amy in the Pandorica was brilliant - she looked so ghostly and creepy and beautiful, like an avenging angel. Karen Gillan has a wonderfully expressive face, and it can be either stunning or sullen and childlike depending on the scene. Rory is completely wonderful. One question though: shouldn't there be two of him? Or was the robot version not brought back? And given that the robot one is the one that lugged the Pandorica around for 2000 years, does actual!Rory have any memory of that? But it doesn't really matter.
I loved River even more than usual in this episode and I'm thrilled to bits with the new team (all right, it's not completely new, but Rory feels a lot more integrated now). Wonder if they'll stick with it much into the next season? Three's a crowd after all. To be honest I could live with an even bigger ensemble - the TARDIS is big enough, theoretically, and that way you could have more B plots.
Anyway, from a glance around the flist the reaction seems pretty positive in general, which is great. Now we just have to wait for the next season... at least there's new True Blood and Futurama to tide us over for a while
ETA: Fezzes ARE cool.
