Ramblings- Half Blood Prince
I figured I'd finally post my opinions about Half Blood Prince. Even though I imagine everyone's seen it, I'll still put it behind a cut.
First of all, the positive side.
Excellent performances from many of the actors.
Dan was his usual intense self.
Tom Felton's tortured, agonized Draco was a superb performance.
Helena Bonham Carter's sensual, wacky Bellatrix was a pure delight.
Bonnie Wright finally emerged from the background and her performance was excellent.
Jim Broadbent's Slughorn was spot on.
Jessie Cave's Lavender was delightful and quite touching. I felt so sorry for her after Ron dumped her.
The two scenes with Dan and Ivana were absolutely charming.
The sets and effects were excellent as usual.
That being said, I really didn't like this movie because of one particular scene.
The so-called kiss between Harry and Ginny.
I'm amazed that Dan and Bonnie agreed to so trivializing what was probably the most important scene in the book other than Dumbledore's death. For all that two-second peck told us, she's still with Dean and she's just teasing Harry. Only the brief mention by Hermione at the end that Ron is 'OK' with Harry and Ginny tells us any different.
It is obvious to me that the Director, Producers and Writers of these movies are frustrated Harry/Hermione shippers. There can be no other logical explanation for them cheapening the relationship between Harry and Ginny that JKR so firmly established in the book.
They've even set it up so that we won't get the kiss from Deathly Hallows. How?
Bill and Fleur were nowhere to be seen in this movie, so I guess the director and writers aren't going to have them get married. Where would they do it anyway? The BURNED the Burrow down! Where the hell did that come from?
More than likely, we're going to get a first movie featuring endless angst between Harry and Hermione during their months alone on the hunt. Who knows? Maybe they'll have them end up in bed together!
If we're very lucky, maybe they'll work in one scene at Hogwarts for us before the final battle. Maybe someone torturing Ginny.
If they bother with the epilog, I'll bet they find some way for Hermione to be married to Harry, rather than Ron.
So, as you can see, I was displeased with the tone and emphasis of this movie. I don't know how much input Rowling has on the films, but I just can't imagine that she would have approved of them so cheapening Harry and Ginny's relationship.
