I had another Harry Potter conundrum wake me up early this morning

Hermione mentions that the founders trusted girls more than they trusted boys, so girls can go to the boys dorms whenever they want. She talks about it right after the boys get the slide treatment.

And one would assume that the same applies to girls going up to the boys' rooms.

Not so. Hermione gives a speech in one of the books about how girls are more trustworthy and that's why it only works one way.
